Buffalo Heart Studio has been owned and operated by Dave & Jan Hagstrom since 2000 however Dave has been making creations of this type since the mid 1970's. We create historically accurate, museum quality Plains Indian artifact replicas for collectors, western artists, reenactors, interior designers, a few selected stores and galleries, museums and the film industry. Everything is done in-house including our braintanning so we retain complete control of the finished piece. We are proud of our work and we take it very seriously. This is what we do...this is how we make our living.
Our work is tribal specific and time period accurate. Our library of reference material is extensive plus we live just a short distance from the world class Plains Indian Museum in Cody Wyoming. Years of practical experience in using many of these creations has lead to a level of understanding and expertise not often found in other work of this kind. We've carried the bowcases and quivers and shot the bows from foot and horseback, we've worn the clothing, done the tanning, lived in the lodges and used the horsegear. This often makes a difference in how things are designed and created. While we often have items on hand, most of our work is by custom order done in a timely manner. If you order something not in stock, we will immediately provide you with an approximate turn around time and if you have a deadline to meet, we can often make that deadline for you. A few of our pieces are items that would not necessarily have been found in 19th century but are our interpretations of these things and they are often used for home decor....they will be noted as such. With our experience we can also create clothing and gear for the Fur Trade Era reenactor.
Please note: While both of us have Native blood in our backgrounds from our Mothers, we are not enrolled tribal members and therefore by law, (The Indian Arts & Crafts Act 1990) we cannot state or imply that any of the creations on this website are made by enrolled tribal members, Indians or Native Americans unless otherwise specified.
Payment is by cash, check, money order, money transfer and VISA, MASTERCARD and DISCOVER credit cards. We use Fedex for shipping in-country and abroad but can use whatever method you prefer. On request we can email a photo of the finished custom ordered piece or pieces so you know what you're paying for. Some large and more complex orders may require a deposit.
Buffalo Heart Studio uses nothing illegal in the construction of it's creations. Certain items shipped overseas may require a CITIES permit which can take up to 60 days to obtain.
Enjoy our work......
